The Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System is recruiting for a Dentist for the Minneapolis Minnesota Dental Clinics in Minneapolis and Ramsey, Minnesota . The full -time dentist will be assigned as a staff dentist to the Dental Service and reports to the Chief of Dental Service
The incumbent will function as an equal member within the larger team of staff dentists and auxiliary staff. Individuals with specialized training in a particular specialty may be assigned section chief responsibilities for that subspecialty and may function as the primary clinician or subject matter expert responsible for formulating policy, procedures, education and training affecting the daily clinical operations of the subspecialty. The incumbent dental officer serves as a practicing general dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. The incumbent dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following, but not limited to Oral Exam and treatment planning, TMJ therapy, Restorative dentistry, Treatment of infections, Removable and Fixed Prosthodontics, and Endodontics, extractions and Restoration of Dental Implants. The incumbent will conduct Compensation and Pension (C&P) Exams as requested by Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) and Regional Office
As a staff general dentist, the incumbent will be responsible for providing consultation and treatment within the scope of their specific clinical privileges. He/she may provide education and training to members of the medical staff through various conferences, committees and lecture series. He/she will act as a consultant to other staff general dentists in Minneapolis VA Health Care System. He/she will consult with and refer patients to other appropriate specialists.
The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational and administrative committees, task groups or special projects. The incumbent spends approximately 90% of time in the clinic providing direct patient care dental services, answering consults for outpatient dental care and providing follow-up care as needed. The incumbent will spend approximately 10% of the time on administrative, resident training, or training activities.
The incumbent establishes professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), providing telephone and curbside consultation as needed and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling
Dentist duties includepProviding outpatient, inpatient and ER care for patients eligible for dental care, examining or evaluating patients to determine need for further dental care, prescribing medications within defined scope of dental practice, ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests or radiographs, initiating and expediting requests for consultation intra-facility, inter-facility, and FEE basis care, providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
The incumbent will assist in meeting Performance Measures for clinical dental care. The incumbent will complete all mandatory training requirements timely, attends medical center committee meetings and complies with computer and privacy directives. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
