The Patton College of Education serves over 890 graduate students and approximately 1800 undergraduates in five departments (Counseling and Higher Education, Educational Studies, Teacher Education, Human and Consumer Science Education, and Recreation and Sports Pedagogy) and eleven research/clinical centers The successful candidate will join the Department of Counseling and Higher Education. The Counselor Education Program, Department of Counseling & Higher Education
The Counselor Education Program at Ohio University was established in 1948 by George E. Hill, a national leader in Counselor Education. The first Ph.D. degree from the program was granted in 1962. All degree programs in Counselor Education are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). The program offers the Ph.D .in Counselor Education & Supervision (CACREP), and M.Ed. in Counselor Education with Specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP), School Counseling (CACREP), and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (CACREP & CORE). The George E. Hill Center is located within the department of Counseling and Higher Education in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education at Ohio University.
Position Description: Director, The George E. Hill Center for Counseling & Research
The George E. Hill Center for Counseling and Research is a training facility for Master’s and doctoral students in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education's Counselor Education programs. The Center has a four-fold mission to: 1) to provide a forum for experiential training of master’s and doctoral level Counselor Education students; 2) to provide consulting and outreach services to the university community and the educational and counseling agencies of Southeastern Ohio; 3) engage in scientific research, scholarly publications, project evaluation and grant acquisitions and 4) to provide professional counseling and diagnostic services to the Southeastern Ohio region.
The position of George E. Hill Center Director is a 12-month administrative position. The director is responsible for setting a clear strategic vision that results in the provision of evidence-based, fiscally sustainable, and integrated clinical services and research projects that also provide professional training opportunities. Duties of the director include the following:
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day clinical, research, and administrative activities of the George E. Hill Center
- Engage in the provision of clinical services and the supervision of students in the area of their professional expertise.
- Ensure high quality diagnostic, treatment, or consultative experience for children, adolescents, families, and adults that serves as a best practices model for clinical service and training.
- Participate in Grant Solicitation/Development/Administration - Identify opportunities to seek external grant funding for Center projects and write proposals seeking grant funds for Center research projects.
- Develop new service opportunities and the infrastructure to conduct clinical research by sourcing extramural funding.
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct research projects related to the Center's mission in collaboration with department faculty.
- Oversee all phases of the research process and ensure all research activities comply with Ohio University institutional review board policies and procedures.
- Supervise graduate assistant(s) and oversee other personnel affiliated with funded projects.
- Participate in service at program, department, college and university levels.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Doctorate or master’s degree in counselor education or related field. Licensed or license-eligible for LPC in the state of Ohio within a year. LPCC with supervisory endorsement is preferred.
- Strong evidence of the ability to develop and maintain a focus on research for the center.
- Experience with leading and facilitating grant applications, developing budgets, and maintaining funding
- Strong evidence of the ability to coordinate faculty, staff, and graduate students to fulfill the Center’s mission.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Graduate-level training in statistics and research methodology
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The appointment is for three years with annual renewal based upon successful completion of Center goals. After three years, the director should generate sufficient funds to cover full operation of the Center. The director reports to the department chair and works closely with department faculty.
