The Physician (Supervisory Hospitalist) position is located at the673rd Medical Group VA/DoD Joint Venture Medical Treatment Facility (JVMTF), Joint Base Elmendorf/Fort Richardson (JBER). The DoD/VA Joint Venture Hospital serves the health needs of Alaskan DoD and Veterans Affairs (VA) beneficiaries through TRICARE, DoD/VA Joint Venture, and the Alaska Federal Health Care Partnership. The Physician (Hospitalist) is accountable to the Associate Chief Nurse for Joint Venture and clinical oversight by the Chief of Staff at the Alaska VA Healthcare System (AVAHS), Anchorage, Alaska and SGH, 673rd Medical Group, JBER. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for clinical oversight and supervision of VA staff assigned to the VA/DoD Joint Venture Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Unit.
- Provide operations level leadership, guidance, and supervision to physicians, licensed independent advanced practice nurse practitioners, and physician assistants working in JV in the ER, Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Urology.
- Ensure care provided by practitioners assigned to those JV meets established quality guidelines, monitor schedules and workload, and ensure competency of staff.
- Administer the AVAHS Home Oxygen Program and Chairs of the Home Respiratory Care Team meetings.
- In addition to supervisory duties, provide inpatient evaluation, consultation, and treatment patients admitted to the JV inpatient units.
- Responsible for participation in The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation readiness within their areas of responsibility.
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Management Service to ensure processes are in place to meet TJC standards and that supportive elements such as Periodic Performance Review (PPR) and tracer activities are in place.
- Establish open channels of communication with local labor representatives to ensure effective labor/management relations and promote effective resolution of complaints within their areas of responsibility.
Work Schedule: Fulltime working days, evenings, nights, some weekends and holidays. Eight (8) shifts a month.

- Citizenship of the United States.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, or Critical Care. ACLS/BLS preferred. ACLS/BLS will be required prior to appointment.
