Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: Working within our Finance Department, the Billing Specialist is responsible for all aspects of insurance claim processing including insurance verification, submission of treatment authorizations and payment posting.
Job Details and Essential Functions:
Process all patient billing and insurance correspondence
Post insurance and patient payments
Review patient status for new and on-going patient billing
Analyze patient revenue and expenses for correct accounting and resolution of discrepancies
Analyze and resolve aging accounts with timely A/R management and delinquent account follow up
Ensure all billing and patient related files are maintained in a secure environment
Submit treatment authorizations
Coding, including ICD-10
Support provider certification and contract processes
Coordinate with Hospice staff, insurance companies, skilled nursing facilities, and governmental agencies regarding verification and scope of patient insurance and reimbursement negotiations
Knowledge and Skills
Required
Medical insurance and billing knowledge with ability to identify and resolve incorrect or unpaid claims and other insurance issues
Ability to interpret and post payments from insurance EOBs
Ability to work efficiently with computers and related software
Speak with insurance companies and patients over the phone to resolve issues
Ability to perform work completely, accurately, and timely
Medical terminology
ICD -10, HCPCS and CPT Coding
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Desired
Experience working with Netsmart, Homecare, and eClinical Works software
Public speaking, developing relationships with identified partners, groups, businesses with whom Foothills Compassionate Care may have or need to establish affiliation
Education & Experience
Required
At least 1 year of experience in medical billing and coding, specifically billing Medicare or Medicaid
High school degree or equivalent
Desired
At least 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding in a Home Health or Hospice
License / Certifications
Required
Possess and maintain valid California driver's license, a reliable automobile and evidence of appropriate liability insurance
