Description

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as a key executive leader at Bronson Methodist Hospital (BMH), responsible for overseeing clinical strategies and ensuring excellence in patient care. This role requires the integration of clinical services across a high-volume, complex healthcare setting, including a Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Magnet-recognized facility. The CMO champions operational efficiency, patient safety, and innovation while balancing financial acumen and business insight to maintain high-quality standards in healthcare. This is a full-time executive role with accountability for clinical operations across the hospital, requiring flexibility to respond to urgent healthcare situations and participate in strategic decision-making at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Oversight:

  • Direct and enhance clinical practice in a high-acuity environment, ensuring rapid response and exceptional care.
  • Lead provider engagement and policy development for patient care practices at BMH.
  • Advise senior leadership on medical policy and staff relations.
  • Develop medical staff by-laws and policies aligned with organizational values and mission.
  • Implement innovative and advanced practice models in hospital and outpatient settings.

Medical Staff Oversight:

  • Direct medical staff activities, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Facilitate recruitment, credentialing, and professional development of physicians.
  • Provide administrative leadership to Medical Staff Services and Patient Safety/Risk Management functions.
  • Foster collaboration among physicians, APPs, nursing teams, and stakeholders.

Supervising Medical Directors:

  • Oversee departmental medical directors to align with hospital objectives.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide leadership guidance.
  • Drive action-oriented approaches to decision-making and clinical strategies.

Committee Oversight:

  • Participate in key hospital committees such as the System Medical Executive Committee, Quality Assurance, and Patient Safety Committees.
  • Lead initiatives to improve clinical quality, safety standards, and patient care policies.

Strategic Management and Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain and improve national rankings in specialties like cardiology and orthopedics.
  • Execute clinical quality initiatives addressing patient care, safety, and outcomes.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to evidence-based care practices and safety standards.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee clinical services for operational efficiency and patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Physician Executive on leadership evaluations.
  • Foster continuous improvement and innovation in healthcare delivery.

Collaboration with Bronson Capacity Command Center:

  • Enhance operational efficiency and manage patient flow using real-time analytics.
  • Streamline post-acute care transitions and optimize resource allocation.
  • Foster engagement and alignment with operational goals among clinical teams.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree; Board Certification in a recognized medical specialty.
  • Valid medical license with a minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, preferably in a Level I Trauma Center.
  • Leadership experience within a Magnet-recognized facility.
  • Master’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
