HARTZ Search invites you to explore an exciting opportunity with our client, Oswego Health, in Oswego, NY, for the Executive Director, Medical Practice. The Executive Director sets and delivers strategic goals that drive the direction of Medical Practice and align with the system’s long-term strategic vision. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in healthcare administration and proven skills to execute the delivery of high-quality patient care, financial sustainability, and growth of the Medical Practice. The Executive Director provides strategic direction in areas such as the growth of primary care and specialty services, patient access, financial health and contribution, patient retention, and practice operations improvement initiatives. This position is a key leader within the health system and plays a critical role in the growth and development of the Medical Practice and the rest of the health system.
The mission of Oswego Health is to provide accessible, quality care and improve the health of residents throughout Oswego County. As a nonprofit healthcare system established in 1881, Oswego Health is proud to continue to be one of Oswego County’s largest employers. More than 1,200 employees spread throughout its 17 locations, which include the 164-bed community hospital with a brand new Medical Surgical Unit, a 32-bed state-of-the-art psychiatric acute-care facility with multiple outpatient behavioral health service locations, The Manor at Seneca Hill, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility, and Springside at Seneca Hill, an independent retirement community. The health system also operates Oswego Health Home Care, the only hospital-based certified home healthcare agency in the County as well as two outpatient centers, including the Fulton Medical Center, offering urgent care, lab, medical imaging, physical therapy, and occupational health services; and the Central Square Medical Center, offering urgent care, lab, medical imaging, and physical therapy services. In addition, Oswego Health includes the Oswego Health captive professional corporation, Physician Care P.C., providing physician services in orthopedics, cardiology, ENT, gastroenterology, breast care, audiology, general surgery, bariatrics, and primary care.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to the Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations
Lead the strategic direction of the Medical Practice based on organizational vision.
- Grow and develop existing specialties and services and recommend additional services to leadership where necessary. Develop, implement, and track a strategic plan for the Medical Practice based on the organization's strategic goals. Implement policies and procedures based on best practice principles.
Partner with organizational executives to execute strategic plan and report on the progress of the Medical Practice.
- Execute change management effectively to ensure smooth transitions as the organization grows. Leverage a dyad leadership model with the physician president of the Medical Practice to create and implement strategic initiatives throughout the organization.
Create and oversee the budget and financial resources of the Medical Practice.
- Manage the financial health of the Medical Practice through accurate forecasting and reporting. Identify and implement cost efficiencies and revenue generation opportunities. Partner with the CFO and other business functions to optimize the financial state of the Medical Practice. Participate in provider recruitment as needed and ensure successful onboarding and ramp-up of all new providers. Manage provider contracts to maintain standardization and timely renewals.
Direct core functions within the medical practice include business operations, patient access, and clinic operations.
Provide advisement and direction to leaders as they strive to meet their function-specific goals. Promote continuous learning and professional growth for all leaders and staff members. Supervise, develop, and motivate leaders and team members. Partner with organizational business functions as needed. Resolve conflicts within the organization effectively and professionally.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare administration. A master’s degree in business or healthcare administration is preferred. Experience: Five years’ management experience in a medical practice setting or equivalent experience.

Oswego is located on Lake Ontario in Upstate New York, about 35 miles northwest of Syracuse. It promotes itself as "The Port City of Central New York." It is the county seat of Oswego County.
