The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS), Las Vegas Nevada, is recruiting to fill the position of Pulmonologist – Intensivist. The Candidate for this position is charged with delivering the best possible Pulmonary/Critical Care services to our Veteran patients. In conjunction with the Surgical or Medical attending physician and other consultants, the Pulmonologist/Intensivist (PI) directs the care of all patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The PI provides continuous vigilance; early intervention and ongoing care with the goal to decrease ICU related morbidity and mortality. In addition, the PI proactively communicates with the other members of the team to assure optimal results.

Since 1972, VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. We consider it our privilege to serve their health care needs in any way we can. Services are available to more than 240,000 Veterans living in our catchment area. Within the sunny Las Vegas valley and surrounding areas, VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) provides outpatient and inpatient health care services to more than 45,000 patients yearly, exceeding 450,000 outpatient visits per year. This comprehensive VA Medical Center is a 90-bed inpatient facility with state-of-the-art medical, diagnostic and surgical services. Other services provided by VASNHS include a 20-bed inpatient psychiatric treatment ward that opened on April 15, 2013. Several outpatient services are available at the Medical Center. Services provided by VASNHS continue to expand to meet the demands of the dynamic growth.
Overview of Pulmonologist – Intensivist Duties:
Overview of Pulmonologist Duties: When not scheduled for Intensivist duties, the PI will assume the role of consulting pulmonologist. As such s/he will perform inpatient/outpatient procedures, consultations, and follow-up care.
Position is an academic position and the candidate must qualify for academic standing and scholarly activities. Overview of Academic Duties: Physician must participate in the academic affiliation with the University to include education of the medical students, advanced practitioners, residents, and fellows. Responsibilities will include conducting formal multidisciplinary rounds, overseeing the education of trainees with medical assessment and procedural skills, providing feedback and evaluation of trainees, participation in didactics such as grand rounds, morning conference, morbidity/mortality conference, lecture series, and journal club with evidence based medicine. Consideration will be given to candidates who have academic appointments or teaching experience.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with on-call duties on the weekend, night and holiday coverage as necessary.
